Destination Ré Island
What is more natural than arriving on an island by boat, from the sea…?
Set sail for Ré Island and prepare to be charmed by its unspoilt natural environment, its beaches and salt marshes and its traditional villages and friendly harbours! Although tourism is the island’s main source of income today, Ré still owes much of its charming character and identity to the oyster farming industry and its other traditional economic activities of wine growing, potato farming, fishing, and sea salt production. Against this backdrop, can be added the picturesque villages: delightful collections of whitewashed houses adorned with pale green shutters set amidst lovely lanes bedecked with hollyhocks. The island is a cyclist’s paradise with over 100km of easy pedalling cycle paths. St Martin de Ré, the island’s capital and UNESCO world heritage site, is home to most of the island’s historic heritage (the fortifications and citadel) and it also offers visitors a wealth of shops, boutiques, art galleries and other summer attractions.
Bike hire and horse and carriage tours are available upon arrival.
